What Is BudgPay? A Plain-English Guide to the Shared Money App

BudgPay Team · 27 Aug 2026 · 2 min read

Search for BudgPay and you'll get a one-line pitch: "Pay Smart. Share Easy." That's catchy, but it doesn't actually answer the question. So here's the plain version.

BudgPay is a tracking and organizing app, not a payment app

That's the most important thing to understand first. BudgPay doesn't process, hold, or move your money. It's not a wallet, and it's not a UPI app. What it does is keep track of shared and personal money situations that normally live across a group chat, a spreadsheet, and someone's memory - and works out the numbers for you.

Direct in-app UPI payments (paying a merchant or a group member without leaving the app) are on the roadmap, but they're not live yet. Today, when it's time to actually settle up, you do it however you already do - cash, UPI, bank transfer, whatever works for the people involved. BudgPay just makes sure everyone agrees on the number.

What it's actually built to do

BudgPay covers four connected situations:

Who it's for

Not a niche product for one kind of group - it's built for whichever of these applies to you: flatmates splitting rent and groceries, a trip group settling a shared itinerary, a family running a household budget, or just two friends who keep lending each other small amounts and losing track.

Why it exists

Most groups handle shared money with some combination of a spreadsheet, a notes app, and a WhatsApp group where someone eventually asks "wait, did I pay you back for that?" It works, technically, until someone forgets, and then it's an awkward conversation instead of a five-second check. BudgPay exists to make that check take five seconds.

Where to get it

BudgPay is free, available on both Android (Google Play) and iOS (the App Store), and creating budgets, splitting expenses, and using Personal Ledger costs nothing.
