Terms & Conditions

Agreement to terms
These terms govern your use of BudgPay, a shared budgeting app for tracking group budgets, splitting expenses, recording contributions, and settling up. By creating an account, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract to use BudgPay. You're responsible for the phone number, Google account, or Apple ID used to sign in, and for keeping access to your device secure. Accounts created via Google or Apple still require a verified phone number to use the rest of the app.
What BudgPay is — and isn't
It's a budgeting and expense-splitting tool. You and your group create budgets, log expenses, record contributions, and BudgPay calculates each member's share and the simplest way to settle up.
It is not a payment processor, bank, or PSP. When you pay someone through BudgPay, the app hands off to your own UPI app (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, etc.) to complete the actual transfer. BudgPay is not a party to that transaction, never holds or moves your money, and never sees your bank credentials or UPI PIN.
Payment confirmation is self-reported. Since BudgPay can't directly verify whether a UPI payment succeeded, it asks you to confirm the outcome yourself after you return from your UPI app. You're responsible for checking your bank or UPI app statement to confirm a payment actually went through, especially before retrying one.
Personal Ledger is a private, informal record. It's for keeping track of money you've given to or received from someone — it's not a loan agreement, doesn't notify or involve the other person in any way, and creates no legal claim on its own.
Bill & EMI reminders are best-effort. Reminders are scheduled as local notifications on your device. Your phone's OS (especially aggressive battery-optimization settings, or force-closing the app) can delay or prevent a reminder from firing — don't rely on them as your only way of tracking a payment deadline.
Your account
Accurate information — keep your profile, UPI ID, and other account details accurate and up to date.
One account per person — accounts are personal to you and shouldn't be shared or transferred.
Account deletion — you can permanently delete your account at any time from Settings. If you own a budget with other members, ownership passes to another member automatically; solo budgets are deleted along with it.
Shared & group data
Budgets, expenses, contributions, and settlement records you create in a group are visible to every member of that budget — that's how splitting and settling up works. Removing yourself from a budget or deleting your account doesn't retroactively remove your historical expense/contribution records from a shared budget's history, since that would affect other members' own records.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
• Use BudgPay for any unlawful purpose, or to log fraudulent or fabricated transactions.
• Attempt to access another user's account or a budget you're not a member of.
• Interfere with or disrupt the app, its backend, or other users' use of it.
• Use the UPI hand-off feature to solicit or process payments for anything illegal.
Disclaimers
BudgPay is provided "as is." We work to keep it reliable, but don't guarantee it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that every calculated split or settlement will be free of mistakes — always verify important amounts yourself. Because BudgPay hands off payments to third-party UPI apps and the NPCI UPI network, we're not responsible for delays, failures, or errors in the underlying payment itself.
Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, BudgPay and its team aren't liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, including disputes between budget group members or losses relating to a UPI payment made through a third-party app.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the app changes. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above, and, where appropriate, an in-app notice.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India.
